When we arrived at Kilbeg, what we call the 'quarry bed' was just a little overgrown. There were some lovely things in it, but it had become rather impenetrable.
The first task was to clear the site. It had originally been planted through black weed-proof matting. Unfortunately, over time, soil had accumulated on top of the matting and weeds and seedlings rooted through it from above. After some time attempting to pull this out, we gave up, hired a digger, and dug it all out.
